DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Arrive at Kigali international airport where your safari guide will welcome you. Depending on your arrival time, embark on a Kigali city tour where you will be visiting the Kigali genocide memorial, local markets and artisan shops. After head to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to nyungwe national park
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to nyungwe forest national park. On arrival, check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
Early in the morning, you will be dropped at the park headquarters for a briefing. After enter into the park in search for the chimpanzees. Once they are located, you will spend an hour watching them play, breastfeed and groom each other. After the trekking, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy the nyungwe canopy walk offering panoramic forest views and excellent birdwatching opportunities. After return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to lake Kivu
After breakfast, checkout of the lodge and embark on the journey to lake Kivu, Rwanda’s largest freshwater lake. On arrival, check into the lodge and spend the afternoon relaxing at the lakeside, enjoying a boat cruise or exploring Gisenyi town. Dinner and overnight at the lake.
Day 5: Transfer to Bukavu
After breakfast, cross the border into the democratic republic of Congo at Cyangungu. Proceed to Bukavu which is the gate way to Kahuzi Biega national park. On arrival, check into your lodge and relax while preparing for your next day activity.
Day 6: Eastern lowland gorilla trekking
After morning breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After, head into the forest in search of the habituated gorilla family. Once they are located, you will spend an hour with the gorillas in their habitat. After the gorilla trekking, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Goma -mount Nyiragongo base
Travel to Goma, then transfer to the base of mount Nyiragongo which is an active volcano in Virunga national park. Prepare for your hike the next day and spend the evening relaxing at your accommodation near the park.
Day 8: Hike mount Nyiragongo
In the morning begin your exhilarating hike up mount Nyiragongo. Reach the crater rim to witness the mesmerizing lava lake which is a breathtaking sight and highlight of your African safari. Spend the night at the summit shelters overlooking the glowing lava lake
Day 9: Descend mount Nyiragongo and return to Rwanda
Descend from the volcano and transfer back to Rwanda. On arrival at Kigali, check into your lodge near volcanoes national park where you can unwind and prepare for your gorilla trek the following day.
Day 10: Gorilla trekking and departure
Embark on your final gorilla trekking adventure in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park. Once they are located, spend an hour with the gorillas as you watch them play, breastfeed and groom their young ones. After the trek, transfer to Kigali for your flight back home.
