DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to volcanoes
on arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by your safari guide who will brief you about your 4 days adventure. Depending on your arrival time, you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial, a place of remembrance and history. Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills to volcanoes national park. on arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and allocation of a gorilla family group. With the help of expert guides and trackers, begin your trek through the dense rainforest in search of mountain gorillas.
The trek may take between 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas but the reward is priceless. Spend one magical hour observing the gorillas as they feed, play and interact in their natural habitat. This is the highlight of your African safari experience in Rwanda. After the trek, return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Dian Fossey hike and iby’iwacu cultural visit
After morning breakfast, set off on a guided hike to the Dian Fossey tom and former Karisoke research centre. The trek takes you deep into the forest where Dian Fossey carried out her ground breaking gorilla research and conservation work. Along the way, you may encounter other primates, bird species and scenic views of the Virunga volcanoes. After, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon head out to iby’iwacu cultural village where you will learn more about the Rwandan culture such as their way of dressing, making local foods and banana local beer, participating in their local traditional dances and many more. After the visit, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Return to Kigali and departure
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before checking out of your lodge. After you will embark on your journey back to Kigali where you will enjoy last minute shopping at local markets or craft shops before heading to Kigali international airport for your departure flight.
