DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to nyungwe forest national park
Your driver guide will meet you at Kigali international airport or your hotel in Kigali. After a briefing about your safari, you will begin the scenic drive south. Along the way, you may visit the king’s palace in Nyanza or the Ethnographic Museum in Huye, learning about Rwanda’s culture and history. On arrival, check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your chimpanzee trekking adventure. Led by experience rangers, trek through the dense rainforest in search of chimpanzees. Once you find them, spend an unforgettable hour observing their playful behaviour, social interactions and human like expressions. After the trek return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Hiking the Cyinzobe trail
Today you will explore the famous Cyinzobe trail, one of the most adventurous hikes in nyungwe. This trail offers a full day trekking experience through lush vegetation, leading you to beautiful waterfalls, caves and hidden forest valleys. Along the way, you may encounter primates such as colobus monkeys and mangabeys as well as rare bird species unique to the Albertine rift. After, return to the lodge for diner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Nyungwe canopy walk and birdwatching
After breakfast, set off for the thrilling canopy walk, a 160-meter-long suspension bridge hanging 60 meters above the forest floor. This walk offers panoramic views of the rainforest canopy and is excellent chance to spot monkeys and birds moving among the treetops
In the afternoon, enjoy a birdwatching session with your guide. Nyungwe is a paradise for birders, home to over 300 species including Albertine rift endemics such as the Rwenzori turaco and Grauer’s swamp warbler. After the birdwatching session, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Return to Kigali and departure
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and embark on your journey back to Kigali. On arrival, you can visit the Kigali genocide memorial before being dropped off at the airport for your departure flight.
