DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Kigali and transfer to nyungwe national park
Your safari begins with pickup from Kigali international airport or your hotel in Kigali. After a short briefing, you will drive south through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside. Along the way, visit the king’s palace in Nyanza or the national ethnographic museum in Huye for cultural insights. Continue the scenic drive through rolling hills and tea plantations to nyungwe. On arrival check into the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in nyungwe and canopy walk adventure
Start the day with an early breakfast before heading into Nyungwe forest for chimpanzee trekking. with the help of experienced rangers, follow the trails into the dense rainforest to observe the playful chimpanzees in their natural habitat. The trek may also reward you with sightings of colobus monkeys, mangabeys and other primates.
In the afternoon, take part in the famous Nyungwe canopy walk, a thrilling 60-meter-high suspension bridge above the forest. This walk offers breathtaking views of the rainforest, birds and primates moving through the treetops. After, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu via cyangungu border
After breakfast, drive towards cyangungu, the southwestern border town along lake Kivu. Cross into the democratic republic of Congo through the Rusizi border post and continue to Bukavu, a charming town near Kahuzi Biega national park. check into the hotel and enjoy views of lake Kivu and surrounding hills during the drive.
Day 4: Eastern lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi beiga national park
After breakfast, drive to Kahuzi Biega national park for an extraordinary eastern lowland gorilla trekking experience. After a briefing from the park rangers, set off into the forest to find one of the habituated gorilla families.
These are the largest gorilla subspecies known for their impressive size and gentle behaviour. Once found, spend one magical hour observing them as they feed, interact and move though the forest. After the trek, return to your hotel for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Return to Kigali and departure
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Rwanda via cyangungu border. On arrival, you will be dropped to Kigali international airport for your flight back home
