DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to nyungwe forest national park
Your safari begins with a pick up from Kigali. After a briefing, you will embark on a 6-to-7-hour drive to nyungwe forest national park. the journey offers scenic views of the countryside, tea plantations and terraced hillsides. On arrival, you will check into the hotel for a relaxation and prepare for the next day activities.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in nyungwe forest
Rise early for breakfast before heading into the forest for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience. With the guidance of park rangers, you will track the chimpanzees as they call, feed and move swiftly through the trees. Spending an hour with these fascinating primates in their natural environment is one of the highlights of any African safari. The trek may take 2 to 5 hours depending on the chimp’s location. After the trek return to the lodge for a relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Canopy walk and guided hiking adventure
After breakfast, set out of Nyungwe’s famous canopy walk, a suspended bridge 70 meters above the ground that offers stunning aerial views of the forest. This thrilling activity allows you to spot primates, birds and unique plant species from a new perspective. Afterward, embark on one of Nyungwe’s guided hikes;
- The Isumo waterfall trail which leads to one of the parks most spectacular cascades
- The kamiranzovu swamp trail, excellent for birdwatching and orchid viewing
- The Igishigishigi trail, a shorter but scenic hike that connects with the canopy walk.
Each trail offers its own rewards and contributes to the diversity of your African vacation safari. After the hike, return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Day 4: Forest walk and return to Kigali
Enjoy breakfast before taking a light morning walk in nyungwe. Depending on your preference, you may explore another trail or simply enjoy birdwatching and photography around the lodge. Afterwards, check out and begin your scenic drive back to Kigali. On arrival, you will be dropped off at the hotel or Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
